Load transfer distributes weight across joints in commercial flatwork, ensuring durability with American Highway’s innovative dowel solutions.
Load transfer distributes weight across joints in commercial flatwork, ensuring durability with American Highway’s innovative dowel solutions.
Load transfer is the process of distributing weight across joints or cracks in commercial flatwork, ensuring structural stability. When vehicles pass over these surfaces, the load applied to one concrete slab is shared with adjacent slabs, reducing stress and preventing damage. Effective load transfer, achieved through devices like dowel bars or tapered plate dowels, minimizes issues like faulting, pumping, and corner breaks, enhancing pavement durability. American Highway’s products are designed to optimize load transfer, providing long-lasting performance for high-traffic infrastructure.
The American Diamond™ system delivers superior joint stability, continuity of surface profile and immediate load transfer at construction joints.
The American Diamond™ system’s steel, diamond-shaped plate dowel and ABS plastic pocket former system are precision-engineered to exacting tolerances. Designed for formed construction joints to minimize restraint and cracking, reduce joint spalling and long-term facility maintenance costs. The American Diamond™ system is a sustainable option that optimizes materials and reduces labor costs. The American Diamond™ system should be used with plate dowel basket assemblies for superior load transfer at both construction and saw-cut contraction joints. Dowel Optimizer?

Reliably deliver serviceable saw-cut contraction joints and achieve joint stability measurements of 0.01 inches (0.25 mm) in concrete flatwork applications with the American ST™ Basket Assembly.
Reliably deliver serviceable saw-cut contraction joints and achieve joint stability measurements of 0.01 inches (0.25 mm) in concrete flatwork applications with the American ST™ Basket Assembly. The specific size and tapered shape of the American ST™ Basket Assembly provide, positive load transfer, and continuity of surface profile to minimize joint spalling, eliminate tripping hazards, and improve joint filler performance without inducing restraint.

Plate dowel baskets for quick, safe installation and load transfer at saw-cut joints in new construction.
The American DT™ basket assembly is a more sustainable and cost-effective option, using less steel than single-taper baskets or traditional mesh. The American DT™ basket provides more steel at the sawcut joint interface where it is needed most for load transfer. Designers should consider the construction methodology and tolerances when choosing a double-taper or single-taper basket for a project. The American DT™ basket assembly requires precise basket positioning to ensure maximum steel at the joint interface. Project designs should incorporate the American Diamond™ system at formed construction joints.
Round dowel baskets for load transfer in saw-cut contraction joints
As the industry leader in highway paving and infrastructure, American Highway(™) customizes the highest quality round dowel and round dowel basket assemblies for your project. All-round dowels and basket assemblies meet ACI 360 guidelines for load transfer at saw-cut contraction joints and can be customized for slab depth, coating, and dowel size.
Smooth dowels are used in concrete to allow for expansion and contraction of concrete, which occurs when weather and moisture changes exist but keeps the concrete from lifting. In addition, smooth dowels play a crucial role in concrete applications by accommodating the natural expansion and contraction caused by weather and moisture fluctuations. By preventing the lifting of concrete, these dowels ensure the structural integrity and longevity of the project.
Bar chairs ensure precise rebar positioning in commercial flatwork, enhancing concrete strength and durability in high-traffic industrial settings.
American Highway’s bar chairs provide robust support for rebar in commercial flatwork, such as warehouse floors and industrial slabs. Designed for easy installation, they ensure accurate rebar placement at optimal heights, preventing cracking and enhancing load-bearing capacity under heavy traffic. Made to meet industry standards, these durable, corrosion-resistant chairs deliver long-lasting performance, reducing maintenance for high-traffic concrete environments.
The addition of bar supports will help to enhance our existing highway products line and offer a single point of purchase for the road and bridge contractors. The American Highway Bar Supports with be all domestically made in our Kankakee. IL facility and will be in compliance with CRSI recommended wire diameters.American Highway will provide a variety of bar supports for bridge decks and flat slabs. This new product offering compliments the rebar and mesh supports that we currently manufacture which are used in roads, runways, and bridges.
